Parades
The Calgary Stampede is in full swing, and every year it opens with the illustrious Stampede Parade. I don’t think I’ve been to the parade in over 10 years and here’s why: I really don’t get it. What is a parade? It’s a group of people who dress up in costumes and march or drive cars really slowly down a closed road, waving. Why are they waving at me? And why am I so compelled to wave back? There’s a native guy that waves to me all the time on my way to school; how does walking really slowly down the street make these native people waving to me any more special?
