Music Monday : My Chemical Romance -  Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na).

My Chemical Romance suffers from what I like to call Bieber-itis. They’re a band that initially had a strong following from young kids and teenagers. And because nobody gives a fuck about what a teenager thinks, this quickly invalidates the credibility of this band. This is a damn shame because My Chemical Romance is a very talented band. They’ve very much honed in on their talents, and fine-tuned their sound into something that is actually incredible and is better than a lot of Rock music you hear today. I am talking about their latest album, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. Long gone are the days of their (our) youth where they sang about matters that interested the emo and angsty. MCR is a band that I believe you can truly grow with. Yes, that means I’m actually giving Justin Bieber some props. The kid has single-handedly cornered the market on young girls and their parents’ money. He went from making love songs for Taylor Swift on YouTube to being a multimillionaire on a world tour having the entire young world swinging from his undescended testicles. The Jonas Brothers have no idea what to do right now. He definitely deserves credit for what he has achieved at his age.

I’ll start by saying that Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys is the best rock album of the year. It’s a concept album about a group of outlaws portrayed by the band called the Fabulous Killjoys set in dystopic future in California. The Killjoys are in a battle with an evil corporation with ulterior motives. Infusing the pop punk sound that is familiar to those who’ve listened to the band before, with face melting solos and lyrics that are political in nature, Danger Days works on so many levels and is sure to please a lot of people. It’s easy to listen to, it’s fun, and it demands that you listen to it more than a couple of times. The success of this album comes not from it can accomplish, but the precedent that the band sets : Take them seriously or not, My Chemical Romance will always impress you.
